International hotel chain Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) unveiled its first property in Bangalore — Crowne Plaza Bengaluru Electronics City. The property was previously The Ottera, and IHG has invested “over Rs 200 crore” in this property, said Shaun Langdon, general manager, Crowne Plaza Bengaluru Electronics City. On the group’s plans for the country, Langdon said that there are 32 confirmed hotel openings slated for the next couple of years. Of these, one “large” InterContinental property would be located in Delhi, which would be in the luxury segment, eight upscale Crowne Plaza properties including South Delhi, and 23 mid-market Holiday Inn properties would be opened including Mumbai in March. Of the eight Crowne Plaza properties, several could be opened this year, said Langdon. “We are looking at opening about seven properties this year, and a number of properties would be opened in the first quarter of 2011,” Langdon added. There are plans to bring the Holiday Inn sub-brand to Bangalore too, and “we are looking at a number of hotels in Bangalore for this purpose,” said Langdon. The 195-room upscale business hotel at Bangalore will have rooms at an average room rate of Rs 6,500 onwards, according to hotel officials. The hotel, which is one of the few in the city to have a helipad, is awaiting approvals for landing choppers in the property.
