‘Trees cut without sanction on Thane plot’

THANE: Citizen activist Chandrahas Tawde has put the spotlight on goings-on in the Thane Municipal Corporation-controlled Tree Authority which awarded a sanction for chopping down 1,823 trees from 2010-12 to facilitate construction or infrastructure projects in the city. Tawde has alleged that there a massive mismatch in the records of sanctions given by the Tree Authority and the actual number of trees cut down by builders. “The last two years’ Tree Authority records reveal that permission was given to cut 1,823 trees upon requests made by builders or government institutions like the MSRDC.
