The Millennium City can learn a lesson or two from Colombia when it comes to promoting cycling. Each Sunday, in Colombia’s capital Bogota, some stretches are blocked for cars so that pedestrians, cyclists and skaters can enjoy uninterrupted movement. The event called Ciclovia, literally “bike path” in Spanish, draws more than 1.5 million people to walk, bike, skate and enjoy more than 70 miles of streets opened to people — and closed to automobile traffic — every week. Likewise, in countries like Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Canada and others too hold such events often.
