HC stays Nandigram project

KOLKATA: The Calcutta high court has stayed the construction of a marketplace by the Trinamool-run East Midnapore Zilla Parishad at a disputed site just 500 metres from Nandigram town — the site of the acquisition rebellion that propelled Mamata Banerjee to power. It comes just two days after a Trinamool leader was killed for standing in the way of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s bid to take forcible possession of a cowshed in Dhapa on the eastern fringes of Kolkata.
